Kimary Schatten is a Certified Nurse Midwife and resides in downtown Lexington with her husband, who is a business professor at Washington and Lee University, and their 2 small children under 3 years of age. Kimary earned a Bachelors of Science in Biology from Queens University in Charlotte in 1997 followed by a 2 year service in the Peace Corps in Senegal, West Africa. Exposed to staggeringly high rates of infant and maternal mortality while in the Peace Corps, Kimary was inspired to pursue working in public health care and went on to earn her Masters in Public Health from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. It was in public health school in Chapel Hill that Kimary found her true calling to become a certified nurse midwife, combining her love of working with women and in public health. Kimary then moved to Portland, Oregon where she earned both her Bachelors of Science in Nursing and a Masters of Science in Nursing with a Midwifery Specialty from Oregon Health and Science University. Kimary is an active member of the American College of Nurse Midwives and is certified by the American Midwifery Certification Board. Throughout her career, Kimary has delivered over 500 babies and provided well-woman care to thousands of women. Kimary joined RAHC in August of 2016 and provides well-women care, prenatal services with a partnership with the University of Virginia, and family planning services. During her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two small children anywhere in nature swimming, hiking, camping, or picnicking. As much as possible with 2 small children, Kimary and her husband also love to travel, both around the country and abroad, hoping to instill a sense of wonder and awe in the incredible world we live in.
