Scott Kleinert, LPC is a licensed professional counselor, specializing in adult mental health counseling.

He earned his Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Virginia Tech University, a master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Radford University.

Working with patients that suffer from depression, bipolar disorder, personality disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and thought disorders, Scott provides therapy using a cognitive behavioral approach (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), a modality for treating mood disorders, suicidal ideation, and changes in behavioral patterns such as self-harm and substance abuse. Scott has also received training in Basic Accelerated Resolution Therapy for trauma, grief, generalized anxiety, and other issues. Scott also has extensive training in Anger Management.

Scott became interested in behavioral health issues at a young age after a mission trip to the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota, which ranks last in the state for quality of life and health behaviors and 85% of its families struggles with alcohol addiction.

Prior to coming to the Health Center Scott spent thirteen years employed within the Virginia Community Service Board system as an Emergency Services Clinician, and most recently worked through the Valley Community Services Board at the Middle River Regional Jail in Staunton, VA, working with inmates with mental health and substance use disorders.

Having worked in other localities throughout his career, Scott appreciates the opportunity to serve those in the community where he lives with his wife and two sons. He enjoys spending time with his family, golfing and bowling, and is an avid fan of Virginia Tech Football and the Washington Commanders.
